About Summiteer

~Clough Head~

A featured fell is my way of studying each fell in turn and recording thoughts and observations.

Clough Head

Clough Head Summit

Clough Head is the most northerly of the Eastern "ridge" which includes Fairfield and Helvellyn.

Clough Head from Threlkeld

On my first visit, I caught a bus to Threlkeld and walked back to Glenridding, climbing Clough Head by Fisher's Wife's Rake; AW "The adventurous scrambler will enjoy Fisher's Wife's Rake but the climb is very steep." Indeed it is.

Fisher's Wife's Rake

From the top of the rake, it's a dull trudge to the summit. Sunshine always improves the fellwalking experience, these photos tell a little story in themselves.

The View from Clough Head

Molly on top of Clough Head, 20th June 2021

The chapter in Wainwright's Book One has one of those self-portraits. How many are there in total? Another I remember is on Harter Fell, looking at Haweswater.

Where: Eastern Fells. A northern, eastern fell.

Height: 2381ft

Suggested Route: From Wanthwaite, as per Wainwright Clough Head 5, using Fisher's Wife's Rake - not for pushchairs.

My Frequency: Twice.

Whilst You're There: Great Dodd is the next fell in a southerly direction.

Walk Dates: with links to Reports (on this website) where applicable:

20/06/21 14/09/09
